Type: UIC working group · ID: G03
The Architecture & Technology Working Group (ATWG) develops the FRMCS System Requirements Specification (SRS). It links rail operational functions to a shared system architecture. UIC: 100th ATWG meeting, 12 June 2026
Role in the FRMCS Context
The SRS describes system building blocks, reference points and mechanisms intended to fulfil the functional requirements. It also covers non-functional requirements. This makes it an important entry point for system architects, integrators and technical project leads. UIC: FRMCS SRS AT-7800, version 2.1.0 (at ERA)
For a project it is particularly helpful to keep architecture and product offering apart: a specified system building block is not yet a mandate for how a manufacturer must structure its products. A recommended way of working is therefore to map the required functions and interfaces onto the intended solution.
Significance and Binding Nature
The SRS contains mandatory, optional and informative categories as well as markers for different target states. A requirement for a later target state must not be treated, without verification, as an already implemented function. UIC: FRMCS SRS AT-7800, version 2.1.0 (at ERA)
Working Groups and Cooperation
UIC names cooperation with UNITEL, 3GPP, ETSI TC RT, FP2-MORANE-2 and the other UIC FRMCS working groups. The 100th ATWG meeting took place in Bern in May 2026. UIC: 100th ATWG meeting, 12 June 2026
Practical Guidance
Recommendation for architecture reviews: document every relevant system boundary together with its source and version. Keep open points separate from verified product properties.
